  15. <p>     DIED. TATIANA TROYANOS, 54, mezzo-soprano; of cancer; in New
  16. York. Admired for her dark, passionate and versatile voice,
  17. Troyanos, a fast study of difficult parts, splendidly performed
  18. a vast repertoire on the world's most important operatic stages.
  19. A secretary who dropped out of Juilliard to study music privately,
  20. she launched her career with the New York City Opera in 1963,
  21. spent a decade with the Hamburg State Opera, and made her debut
  22. with the Metropolitan Opera in 1976 as Octavian in Strauss's
  23. Der Rosenkavalier. Her roles included Carmen, Kundry in Wagner's
  24. Parsifal, Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlos, Santuzza in Mascagni's
  25. Cavalleria Rusticana and Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage
  26. of Figaro. Only last year at the Met she premiered the role
  27. of Queen Isabella in Philip Glass's new work, Voyage.
